Mystic Ballet's founder Goran Subotic's first source of inspiration for "Haute
Couture" started with a chance encounter with renowned European designer
Branka Duraskovic, who studied under the famed Jasmina Pantelic. Her sense of
fashion for use in all kinds of situations where the illusion created by a particular
look could alter perceptions and even influence situations intrigued him. Her
runway fashions are integrated into the performance along with her costume designs
for the works presented.
Mystic Ballet boasts an exceptionally talented ensemble of 17 including 9 dancers
from around the world. The company's Dynamic Directions focuses on new works
by the world's most sought-after and emerging choreographers.
Through their daring, athletic movement and integration of ballet into contemporary
and popular dance forms, the dancers of Mystic Ballet take audiences on a choreographic
journey that explores the infinite possibilities of music, movement, and fashion.
U. S. Premiere
The "Music Box" introduces Croatian choreographer, Ivica Bago to the
U.S. with a cleverly crafted pas de duex with a spark, edge and energy that
lingers in the memory long after the performance has finished. This piece has
been performed internationally and Mr. Bago has been commissioned by the Scottish
National Ballet to create a piece for them this spring.
World Premieres
Highlighted is the premiere of "Express Service" set to the classical
music of Bach and the Latin rhythms of Hugo Diaz, choreographer Yesid Lopez
from Columbia fuses ballet, and contemporary, with his distinctive way of moving
to capture the essence of New York's subway culture, featuring 8 company dancers.
The electrifying newly created work "Leave Me Alone" is set to the
powerful music of Benjamin Britten, and distinctive Tom Waits. Mystic Ballet's
Resident Choreographer Sergei Vanaev has created another stunning piece featuring
the athleticism and artistic range of 16 artists of the company.
