Finding
Neverland
By Kristina Dorsey, Arts Editor

Why should Peter Pan and Tinkerbell
be the only ones who get to fly? In Mystic Ballet's original dance version of
"Peter Pan," everyone in this Neverland fantasy world gets to, if
not literally take flight, then do the next best thing: leap and twirl, temporarily
airborne.
And, yes, some characters will fly, too, thanks to the famed organization Flying
by Foy. The show is fully staged and boasts original choreography by Desiree
Subotic. It's part of Mystic Ballet's ongoing efforts to create ballets designed
for kids, following the toe-shoed footsteps of the performing company's "The
Little Mermaid" and "Cinderella."
The Production promises plenty of special effects and eye-catching costumes
and sets, but, even without those frills, this "Peter Pan" offers
some wonderful choreography and dancing, based on a rehearsal viewing a few
weeks ago. After the show, kids can meet the dancers.

The Day - AISLE SEAT A REVIEW, August 11, 2002
Mystic
Ballet's "Snow White" is
magical at the Garde
By SHARMA L. HOWARD
Special to The Day
The timeless appeal of fairy tale magic came alive Saturday afternoon during
a performance of Mystic Ballet's "Snow White" at the Garde Arts Center.
First premiered in the United States
by the Mystic Ballet in February 2002 "Snow White" was welcomed then
with much enthusiasm at the Garde, earning a sold-out performance. . .
Much to the delight of the audience,
the dwarves first appear by walking down the aisles, wiping their brows and
trotting to the "hi ho" beat, but in this ballet, the version is slightly
different and is composed by B. Pavlovsky. It is still recognizable, however,
and is equally as infectious, the audience spontaneously clapped in time.
With their distinct characters, the
dwarves embody their names through their dance and pantomime, eliciting many
a laugh from the audience.
Some clever choreography made the
dwarves the heart of the show, riveting the children to their seats with their
antics, brilliantly timed to the music.
If the dwarves were the heart of
the show, then it is fair to say that Snow White was the soul, . . .
. . . the ballet delivers enough
humor, interaction and suspense to rivet any youngster to the edge of a seat.
